Urban Picnic Street Photography exhibition will be from April 12th – May 2nd 2013

Featuring 30 finalists from the UPSP 2013 competition.

The winner seleted by Eric Kim and Matt Stuart, two highly regarded contemporary street photographers.

Work features street photography from around the world by todays leading street photographers.

Opening evening on Friday April 12 th from 5.30pm.

Urban Picnic is proud to have selected pieces of original artwork and prints by Michelle Thompson.

Michelle Thompson has been at the forefront of illustration since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1996. She has worked successfully in publishing, editorial and design.

Her illustrations have appeared internationally, most notably in collaboration with the influential British designer Vaughan Oliver. Michelle has also illustrated Cherie Blair’s book, ‘The Goldfish Bowl’. She illustrates a regular column for The Globe and Mail in Toronto.

Other clients include the Royal Mail, BBC, Reebok, Penguin Books, The Guardian and many others. Her work has been featured in the international design press including Creative Review, Communication Arts and Graphics International and can be found in numerous design books including Hand & Eye and Picture Book by Angus Hyland (Pentagram).

Michelle’s work includes mark making, collage and photography combined with digital processes. She works with found and created elements, figurative, abstract and typographic. Her work is uniquely versatile and constantly evolving.

Michelle works using a combination of traditional collage techniques and digital technology.

“Editorial work tends to be digital for speed but I still work by hand when the circumstances allow. More often it’s a combination of techniques. I have a huge archive of elements collected over the past 15 years. Everything from postcards, books and magazines, to wood block type, typewriters and printing sets. I use paint and ink, pens and pencils, as well as my own photography.”

Katie Lynn’s fabulous glass products are now available at Urban Picnic Gallery.

Fresh, groovy, bright and quirky -that will look great in your home and some of them are even practical !

Molten Wonky was set up in 2009 by Katie Lynn. Having previously worked in Stained Glass Katie had experience of working with wonderful colours but found it slightly limiting to what she wanted to create.

Colour and shape are a fundamental part of Katie Lynn’s work. She enjoys fusing the glass together and adding dichrioc pieces, wire and millefiore.

Most of Molten Wonkys products come in white gift boxes stamped with the logo or and organza bag.

Street Photography Competition 2013

Urban Picnic Street Photography website is now launched, which includes the Urban Picnic Street Photography competition, with a grand prize of £1,000!

Feel free to start uploading your work for discussion and inspiration over at http://www.photographic-competition.com/ and, when you’re ready, upload your three best works of street photography to the competition (there is a separate entry form for the competition).

The Urban Picnic Street Photography website is a hub to share your street photography, be inspired, discuss photos and upload your three best shots to the Urban Picnic Street Photography Competition 2013. Whilst here you are invited to participate in discussion on anyone’s uploaded images.

Entrants will be in with a chance to win the top prize of £1,000 and have their work printed, framed and exhibited with the us at Urban Picnic Gallery.

Judging the competition will be Matt Stuart and Eric Kim, two of the most prolific and contemporary street photographers today.

LittleBiggs is the collaborative name of artists Dan Biggs and Ceri Ann Littlechild, based in Cambridge where they live together and share a studio.
The couple share a variety of creative practises, including making the artwork for the Cambridge Folk Festival, doing live portraiture and painting together on joint pieces.

Dan is inspired by street culture – the weathered surfaces of the city landscape as well as vintage and retro type. Ceri is inspired by people and the relationship between image and identity. This exhibition features work of each individual artist as well as the work they produce together.
